The “Easy Reading” Process
To give you an idea of what you can expect if you choose to work with me, here is an outline of the initial process that we will follow:
1. After navigating to the Services page you will be able to select the level of service that you want me to provide. Notice that the fee for these services covers four pages of your site. You may choose those that are most important to you. If you do not, I will select the four that I see as most important. Please also notice that the fees indicated are currently at a “launch” level and may increase shortly.
2. After you have selected the level of service (at the bottom of the page), you will be taken directly to my PayPal page. When the PayPal process is complete, you will be returned to this site’s “Red Carpet Welcome” page. That page includes a questionnaire that enables me to get an idea about your website and your intentions for it. It also lets me know how to contact you so that we can communicate one-on-one about your goals for the site and how I can best serve you. Most importantly, it will also give me an idea of who your ideal customers may be. This can be very relevant to the wording of your website content.
3. I will contact you to set up a time for us to talk on the phone* so that I can get a better idea of what you are seeking in working with me. (*A phone call is my preference but if that doesn’t work for you we will find another way for us to interact). I need to understand how you want your goods/services – and you yourself – to be presented on your website. I should mention that the only language in which I am fully conversant is English – although in both the American and British versions.
4. Before we have this initial conversation, I will have briefly looked over your website to get an idea of what I think it needs – or does not need. That is why the sign-up form requests your website URL as an essential part of the process.
5. After that conversation I will focus on the four pages of your website that either you or – failing a selection from you – that I have selected. I will keep in mind what I have learned from you, your goals, and the level of service that you have chosen.
6. I will then send you an email giving feedback on your site, and my recommendations.** (If you have not already seen the sample feedback page, please check it out so that you know what to expect. If the red–blue–black color-coding does not work for you I can find another way to convey the same information.)
7. After I have sent your my recommendations, we can continue to interact to address any further questions that you may have, or additional copy editing services that you may want me to provide.
**Once again I must emphasize that, while I will make recommendations regarding any changes that I see your website as needing, I do not make those changes myself. It is up to you to decide whether you want to accept the changes that I recommend, and, assuming that you do, then to make those changes yourself or to ask your webmaster/developer/local teenager to make them for you.
